About the position
Reporting to the VP of FInance & Legal, the Legal Officer, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to Softonic operations on a wide range of legal matters. You will play a vital role in ensuring that the company operates within legal boundaries and mitigates legal risks effectively. Your expertise will be instrumental in protecting the organization's interests and facilitating its growth in a compliant manner.
As a Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that our company complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. You will work closely with various departments to develop, implement, and enforce compliance programs and procedures
Key Responsibilities:
Provide timely and accurate legal advice to management and various departments on legal issues affecting the organization's operations in collaboration of our external legal firms
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure they comply with applicable laws and accurately reflect the company's interests using the company legal suite Linksquares
Identify potential legal & compliance risks and liabilities and develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
Assist in the resolution of legal disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Together with our IP firm, Manage the organization's intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents, and enforce its rights when necessary.
Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting the organization's industry and ensure that compliance programs are up to date and effective.
In collaboration with our compliance and quality specialist, monitor and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards across all aspects of the organization's activities.
Conduct legal research and analysis on various issues, including case law, statutes, and regulations, to support informed decision-making
Privacy: in liaison with our DPO, coordinate overall compliance with privacy laws affecting the organization
Training and Education: Provide legal training and education to employees to raise awareness of legal risks and promote compliance with legal requirements.
Corporate Governance: Assist our company secretary in ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements and best practices, including board meetings, filings, and disclosures.
Minimum Experience and qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Law; Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent is preferred.
Proven experience as a legal officer or in a similar legal role for at least 6 years
Strong knowledge of commercial and corporate law.
Experience or exposure in Compliance and Privacy
Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
High ethical standards and integrity.
Fluent in English and Spanish, French is a BIG PLUS, any other languages will be a plus
Exposure with technology-related legal issues is a plus.
